We want to be straightforward about how the Studio L1 Journal makes money, because you should be able to judge our recommendations knowing exactly what sits behind them.
The short version
Some links in our articles are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission. This costs you nothing extra — the price is the same as if you had gone to the retailer directly.
What that means in practice
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer records that we referred you, usually by placing a cookie in your browser. If you go on to buy something within a certain window, we receive a percentage of the sale.
We do not see your name, your address, your payment details, or what else was in your basket. We only receive confirmation that a purchase happened.
How we choose what to recommend
This is the part that matters most, so we will be specific.
Commission never decides what appears in an article. Products are chosen first, on their merits, by a practising interior architect. Only then do we check whether an affiliate programme exists. Plenty of pieces we recommend earn us nothing at all, and they stay in.
Every product we recommend must clear the same standard we apply to a paying client’s home:
Quality — it should be well made.
Durability — it should last, because the most sustainable purchase is the one you do not have to replace.
Materials — non-toxic and considered, particularly for anything you sleep on, sit on, or breathe near.
Ethics — transparent sourcing and fair production, as far as we can reasonably establish.
If a product does not meet that bar, it does not appear — regardless of what it might pay.
What we will not do
Recommend something we would not specify in a real project
Write a positive review in exchange for payment
Hide the fact that a link is an affiliate link
Let a brand approve, edit or influence our wording
Claim a certification or material property we have not verified
Sponsored content and gifted items
If an article is sponsored, or if a product was given to us free of charge, we say so clearly at the top of that article. Receiving a product never guarantees a mention, and never guarantees a positive one.
Amazon Associates
Studio L1 is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.
Prices and availability
Prices, specifications and availability change frequently and are outside our control. Anything we quote was accurate when written but may not be current. Always check the retailer’s own page before buying.
Our recommendations are not professional advice
Articles on the Journal are general editorial content. They are not a substitute for a design consultation about your particular home, and they do not take account of your specific dimensions, budget, structure or circumstances. For that, our design services exist.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you want to know whether a specific link is an affiliate link, write to lisete@studiol1.com and we will tell you plainly.
